Even with all our differences, the one thing Australians can all agree on is the joy of the ‘Democracy Sausage’.

The iconic sausage sizzle has been a part of Australia’s election days for years but the term ‘democracy sausage’ only became part of the vernacular around 2012 becoming official in 2016 being crowned Australia’s word of the year by The Australian National Dictionary Centre.

So how do you get your hands on a ‘democracy sausage’ this Saturday? Can you be sure your polling location is hosting a sausage sizzle? What if you’re looking for a cake stall or even coffee options?

Enter, democracysausage.org. It’s a map of sausage and cake availability on election day.

Using a mixture of data from Twitter and Facebook along with stalls that people can submit via the website, you can now track down the tastiest place to cast your vote.

You can also discover the ‘Best and Wurst’ electorates when it comes to democracy sausage offerings as well as a state by state breakdown of who’s got what stalls.

According to Democracy Sausage, the number of known stalls is down from 2019. It’s unknown whether the lower number is due to the impacts of the pandemic or the large number of Australians who are casting postal and pre-poll votes.
